The first member of the Dinosauria to be described from fossils found in North America and the first duck-billed dinosaur to be named. The vibrant snout helps to reinforce the idea that these social animals relied on visual signals to communicate with other herd members. The enlarged scales on the neck reflect recent analysis of the preserved skin of hadrosaurs.
